Stamps Link The World - PHILANIPPON 2011

PHILANIPPON 2011 - Japan's 5th international exhibition and it was the first FIP World Exhibition held in Yokohama, or outside of Tokyo. There were 528 exhibits in Competitive Classes from 65 countries, and 9 exhibits in the invited classes for showing the fine collections or materials that added to the enjoyment of the visitors.

The coveted Grand Prix D'Honneur was awarded to Mr. William Kwan (Hong Kong), FIAP Honorary Member, for his exhibit: Stamps and Covers of East China 1942-1949.

The Grand Prix International award went to Mr. Yo-Chi Kim (Korea) while the Grand Prix National award went to Mr. Yasushi Tejima (Japan).

HIGHLIGHTS FROM FIAP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING & 18TH FIAP CONGRESS

The FIAP Executive Committee Meeting and 18th FIAP Congress was held on 01 August 2011 at Yokohama, Japan, with highlights as follow:

  • A minutes of silence was carried out in memory of Mr. Lee Kong Koo (Korea) and Mr. Paulo Comelli (Paraguay) who passed away on 27 April 2011 and 9 May 2011 respectively.

  • The FIP Board has decided to hold the 72 FIP Congress in Jakarta on 24 June 2012 during INDONESIA 2012 instead of Doha, Qatar due to the uncertainty of DOHA 2012 Exhibition.

  • BANGKOK 2013 has been officially changed to THAILAND 2013 by the Organizing Committee and the date of the exhibition will be from 02 to 08 August 2013.

  • Tanzania Philatelic Association and the Philatelists Union of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea were approved as FIAP Member unanimously.

  • A donation of 301,000 Yen was raised by the FIAP members for the Japan Northern Eastern earthquake, the amount was presented to Mr. Toshimasa Ouhara, FIAP Exco Member from Mr. Tay Peng Hian on behalf of FIAP Executive Committee.

FIAP GRAND PRIX CLUB

Eversince the first FIP & FIAP Grand Prix Club luncheon held in New Delhi, India on 18 February 2011, the second Grand Prix Luncheon was again successfully held in Yokohama, Japan on 02 August 2011at the Ocean Terrace Restaurant of Intercontinental Yokohama Grand Hotel.

CHINA 2011

CHINA 2011, 27th Asian International Stamp Exhibition will be held grandly from 11-15 from 11-15 November 2011 in Wuxi, the Pearl of Lake Taihu".

CHINA 2011 is under the Patronage of FIAP and the Recognition of the FIAP. It was approved by the Chinese State Council, and is jointly hosted by the State Post Group and All-China Philatelic Federation. Wuxi Municipal People's Government will be the local sponsor of the Exhibition.

SYDNEY STAMP EXPO 2011

Sydney Stamp Expo, a full national level stamp exhibition was held over four days from Thursday 31st March 2011 to Sunday 3rd April 2011 at Royal Randwick Racecourse. The exhibition as a joint venture with the Australasian Philatelic Traders Association (APTA) with sponsorship from the Australian Gaslight Company (AGL) who provided green energy for the exhibition venue.

The exhibition attracted over 700 frames of competitive exhibits including two entries in the Modern Traditional Class which was a late inclusion. The exhibition also saw the introduction of a Championship Class where exhibits that had previously won FIP or FIAP Gold or Large Gold medals were eligible to enter.

The exhibition was well supported by over 40 dealers in attendance as well as Australia Post and the APF with trading tables.

The standard of the entries was reflected by the awarding of 12 Large Gold and 22 Gold medals which was approximately 26% of the total competitive entries.

PHILANUEX 2011

Nepal Philatelic Society has organized an exhibition named "PHILANUEX" because the exhibition includes philatelic items around the world as well as Nepalese banknotes. The exhibition was for three days from 09 to 11 July, 2011 in Katmandu. It was organized to mark the 46th anniversary of Nepal Philatelic Society and Nepal Tourism Year 2011. It was supported by the Nepal Services Department and Nepal Rastra Bank.

The main objective of this exhibition is to highlight Nepal Tourism Year through the collections of philatelic and numismatic (Banknotes) items. It is also tried to share the knowledge of the collection to visitors and preserve them for the generations to come. Exhibitors were awarded with brass coated souvenir metallic certificate in the ceremony and Acting President, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Shrestha has awarded token of love to the Chief Guests. Minister for Information & Communication Mr. Agni Sapkota and Governor Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada of Nepal Rastra Bank were the Chief Guest for the exhibition.

GOLD MEDAL AND FLOWER STAMP EXPO 2010

Gold Medal and Flower Stamp Exhibits Expo 2010 was held, in concert with Taipei 2010 International Flora Expo, from 05 to 09 November, 2010 at Postal Museum Taipei, Taiwan. It was a joint effort of Chinese Taipei Philatelic Society (CTPS) and Chunghwa Post Inc. Co. The CTPS was responsible for the commission of exhibits and reception of commissioners. A total of 210 exhibits comprising 56 devoted to flowers stamps and 154 gold medal exhibits were on display. These exceptional quality exhibits, besides local exhibits, came from 5 countries; namely Australia, Korea, Luxemburg, Malaysia and Thailand. Invited Guests of Honor and commissioners are Mr. Joseph Wolf RDP, Honorary President of the FIP, Mr. Surajit Gongvatana, Vice President of the FIP and President of FIAP, Mr. Choon Koshpasharin from Thailand, Ms. Linda Lee from Australia, Prof. Chang Hwan Kim from Republic of Korea, and Mr. Kuee Hong Ong from Malaysian.

The opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was co-presided over by Mr. Oliver F. L. Yu, Chairman of Chunghwa Post Inc. Co., and Michael Lin Mao-Hsin, President of the CTPS, joined by all guests of honor and local philatelists. The highlights of the exhibition are 3 Grand Prix International exhibits: the Imperial China 19th Century Postal History from Taiwan, the Republic of China, Thailand: King Vajiravudh Rama VI and King Prajadhipok Rama VII from Thailand and the George V Sideface Definitive Issues of Australia, 1913-1938 from Australia.

Though small in scale, the exhibition boasts 85% of the exhibits to have been receipt of gold medals at international exhibitions; this exhibition, compact as it was, demonstrated a very high quality.
